Rider–Waite–Smith, 1909

The table first, the reading in a window

Today’s card is already on the table. Draw opens the spread. You turn three cards. The reading, and a yes or no count, open on the third. It is saved in Library.

Draw in 3 steps

Lay the deckFaces lock first
  1. 1

    Choose the spread

Past, present, future, or yes or no.

  2. 2

    Lay the cards

78 face down. Faces and reversals are fixed before you touch one.

  3. 3

    Turn three

Each card lands in the next seat. The reading, and the yes or no count, open only after the third.

You pick the cards

  • You pick

The cards stay face down until you choose three. The result is not a button that prints three names.

  • The picture is the result

Rider–Waite–Smith. Reversed means the picture is turned.

  • Yes or no is a tally

39 upright and 39 reversed, locked before the pick. The words on the card do not change the count.

  • No second essay

There is no generated reading after the cards. The cards are the tool.

Tarot FAQs

Do I get dealt three cards?

No. You lay the deck face down and pick three.

What do the three seats mean?

Past is what led here. Present is where it stands. Future is where it heads if nothing changes.

How does yes or no work?

Upright counts yes, reversed counts no. The first and third cards count 1. The middle counts 2. An even split is Unclear.

What does it cost?

The card of the day is free. Drawing a spread opens with Orbit.

The draw

Three cards are a past, a present, and a direction. They are not a birth chart and they do not replace one. The card of the day is fixed until tomorrow, so refreshing the page does not hunt for a better card. A question belongs in one sentence. A second question is a second draw.

The deck is the Rider–Waite–Smith deck of 1909. The pictures are the reading. Upright is the card as printed. Reversed is the same card turned, not a curse and not the opposite word pasted on automatically. The seventy-eight meanings are on their own pages if you want the picture without a draw.

What a spread is for

Yes or no is one question and a tally. Love and money are the same deck pointed at one subject. The Celtic cross is ten cards because the question is already tangled: what is happening, what crosses it, what it is standing on, and where it goes. None of these spreads know your chart unless you go and cast one.
